It is that time of year again. The 14th Annual Coachella Music Festival has announced the lineup of the future and tickets sold out in minutes. Last year more than 80,000 music lovers flocked to the valley to see Snoop Dog and Dr. Dre. They were not disappointed. In one of the coups of the decade Dr. Dre brought beloved poet and Hip Hop icon Tupac Shakur back to life as a hologram using technology that seemed from another galaxy.
The effect was electric, pure magic. Coachella rocked and the world watched and they are ready to do it all again for two turbo charged weekends in April. The Empire Polo Club is always the right venue for an event of this magnitude. With plenty of camping space, parking and room to party it is the place to be in April 2013. This year will feature Blur, the English alternative rock band: the Stone Roses, also an English rock band and Phoenix, am alternative rock band from France.
Although the lineup is mainly rock this year, Hip Hopsters are not be forgotten and are looking forward to the long awaited reunion of the Wu Tang Clan and an appearance by Jurassic 5. One of the hottest stars at the Festival will be our very own Red Hot Chili Peppers (Los Angeles based) coming off a now in progress tour to Australia, South Africa and Mexico. Familiar to everyone in Southern California they have been a staple of the local music scene since the early 80’s.
Dozens of other talents will rock the Coachella stage including Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Vampire Weekend, the XX, Lou Reed, and Modest Mouse to name only a few. Festival passes are still the best way to go choosing the days that best agree with your tastes and preferences. As for me, I will be looking forward to meeting plenty of new folks looking to buy vacation homes all across the valley. There is probably no month of the year that shows the desert off more beautifully than April.
With cactus in bloom, yucca trees flowering, warm and gentle night winds and starry skies it is hard to imagine a more idyllic spot for having a great time to your favorite music. Even if the music is not what you favor, there is plenty of shopping, dining and gambling to fill the hours with fun and laughter surrounded by people you love. The Coachella Music Festival is one of the last hurrahs of the season before the summer heat arrives so don’t miss it and hope to see you there!
