Be sure and mark your calendars for February 23, 2013 and don’t miss the second annual Rhythm, Wine and Brews Festival at the Empire Polo grounds in Indio. Presented by The Empire Music Ventures this year’s festival will star headliner B.B. King, the legendary blues icon whose hit “Thrill is Gone” is a music staple. Born in Mississippi in 1925 King is ranked by Rolling Stone magazine as number six on the list of the 100 greatest guitarists of all time. At age 87 King is still thrilling audiences and packing houses everywhere he goes.
Along with King expect to see southern rock, country and blues performer Paul Thorn. The talented musician and Americana songwriter released his sixth album in May of 2012 entitled “What the Hell is Goin’ On?” and has opened for such names as Bonnie Raitt, Sting, and Toby Keith. Also on the bill will be Palm Desert’s own local Penny Unniversity band, with their unique blend of jazz and blues fusion. Also look for Alex A and the Fermented to round out the entertainment lineup.
New wineries and breweries have been added this year for a particularly well-rounded and diverse tasting experience. Such prestigious winery names as Bridalwood, William Hill, and Edna Valley will be represented. Among the bear favorites will be Firestone Walker, Sierra Nevada, and Shipyard Brewing. With more than 50 brands to choose from there should be something for every palate. VIP tickets are the way to go for this event if you can afford them. They will include special seating, special parking and other perks that will make this a memorable and comfortable experience.
The Empire Polo grounds are spacious and beautiful, always a perfect spot to hold any event. February weather should be typical Coachella Valley perfect. The entertainment will run from 2 PM to 9 PM, absolutely the best time of the day for a gorgeous pink desert sunset, funky blues and cool jazz music under starlit skies. There are plenty of comfortable accommodations within a very short drive of the venue. World-class restaurants are scattered throughout the Coachella Valley with cuisines to please the most discerning diner.
This is a great opportunity to spend the weekend in our beautiful desert and take in some shopping and casino-based fun. There is always plenty to do in the greater Palm Springs area.
