On February 8-10, 2013 the Third Annual Childhelp Celebrity Golf Invitational will light up the Coachella Valley. Golfing events are one of the most popular winter season activities on the social calendar but this one is exceptional. For one thing it benefits the popular and dedicated Childhelp nonprofit organization. Childhelp always steps up to the plate to help the children of the Coachella Valley with the prevention and treatment of child abuse. Can there be a better cause for which to play golf? Look for Cheryl Ladd and John O’Hurley to be two of the most popular hosts ever and the celebrity reception to be one of the highlights of the weekend festivities.
The venue is also superb. This year it is the luxurious Westin Mission Hills Resort and Spa in fashionable Rancho Mirage. Accommodations are world-class and there just isn’t a better spot in the entire Valley for central location. But perhaps the Piéce de résistance this year is the headliner. Miss LeAnn Rimes is arguably one of the best Country-Western singers of our time. When she started her career as a teenager she was often compared to the legendary Patsy Cline. Such a voice comes along once in a generation and we are so fortunate to have Miss Rimes come along in ours.
Rimes is the youngest person ever to receive a Grammy award. She is also the first person to win in the Country-Western category. She has had no less than 42 singles on the Billboard chart and of those 13 were in the top 10. Probably best known for Blue she has also had blockbuster hits with Can’t Fight the Moonlight and How Do I Live. With a new album coming out this spring called Spitfire, Rimes is at the top of her game and has never sounded better.
The three day extravaganza begins with the Pairing Party “Fiesta Olé” on Friday: moves into the Saturday Golf Ball Gala and culminates on Sunday with the 19th Hole Awards Party and a VIP Celebrity Reception. There are always plenty of surprises and plenty of top drawer golfing to round a glorious event. Childhelp was founded in 1959 by Sara O’Meara and Yvonne Fedderson. It is one of the nation’s leading nonprofit organizations for the care of victims of child abuse and neglect.
This highly effective program focuses on prevention, intervention and treatment. The local chapter has been one of the premier children’s organizations of the desert for many years. The Third Annual Childhelp Celebrity Golf Invitational: having fun and helping kids. It doesn’t get any better than that. See you there!
