The late great Frank Sinatra left us in 1998 but his legacy lives on in the Coachella Valley. His still stunning widow Barbara continues to work tirelessly for children who have faced the daunting obstacles of abuse and neglect. On February 21-23, the indefatigable Mrs. Sinatra will cohost the 25th Annual Frank Sinatra Celebrity Invitational at the Fantasy Springs Resort and Casino in Indio. A three day long charitable bash, presented by Starkey Hearing Technologies, the big winner will be the Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center in Rancho Mirage who will be the recipient of all proceeds. If you can only attend one event this season, let it be this one.
This year golf legend Ken Venturi will be at Mrs. Sinatra’s side as cohost. Venturi was one of Frank Sinatra’s closest friends as well as the 1964 PGA player of the year and a World Golf Hall Of Fame inductee. With the tongue-in-cheek billing of “Frank’s little party in the desert” this event will prove to be anything but. Two days of golf tournaments will be showcased by several collateral celebrations.
The celebrity golfing lineup is so long I don’t have room to print it here. However, expect to see Pat Boone, Marcus Allen, William Devane, Vince Ferragamo, Rollie Fingers, Michael Finney, Bill Engvall, Eric Dickerson, and many more of your favorite entertainers out on the course. The fabulous Eagle Falls Golf Course is made to order for this kind of action. Admission is free for spectators so bring your camera and meet your favorite stars for some amazing photo ops.
Saturday night’s black-tie gala headliner will be Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame inductee and musical icon Frankie Valli of My Eyes Adored You renown. On Friday don’t miss the fabulous reception and silent auction followed by an elegant luncheon and fashion show by famed designer Fe Zandi. Featuring limited edition designs from her famous salon on trendy El Paseo, Zandi’s style was influenced by French icons when she studied haute couture with Jean Patio and Pierre Balmain in Paris.
Perhaps the most exciting aspect of this event is that, for all its glitz and glamour, its true purpose is to benefit the children of the Coachella Valley. How can you do better than having a wonderful time, getting fresh air and exercise, dressing up and dining on gourmet cuisine, and doing it all to support a worthy cause? I hope to see you there!
